On 28 June, the second session of "Ambiente em Família" municipal programme organises "Nights with bats" special edition at the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal.

The CEA - Environmental Education Centre is in charge of the organisation, which will be set up by Luzia Sousa of the Rectory of the University of Porto.

This session is all about bats and dispelling myths about this nocturnal flying mammals, whilst learning about their living habits. Bats are the only mammals capable of flying like birds.

There are 27 bat species in Portugal, all insectivorous, and eight of those are endangered species. Bats usually communicate with each other through high frequency chirps, screeches, and songs, which they use to hunt.

Nature provides children and adults alike with enriching experiences, by experiencing the great outdoors and thus profiting from an array of social, educational and planetary benefits.

This session is participation free, but subject to availability. It is open to the public and families, and children aged six or more, who have to be accompanied by an adult at all times.
