The “Extensão do Douro”, a station of the Museu da Cidade in Porto, opened doors on 25 June. This reopening was marked with the inauguration of the exhibition “Douro: Terra e Atmosfera”, and was attended by the Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira. It can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10 am and 5.30 pm.

In a time that museums matter to cities, more than ever, as they foster the understanding of cities, the “Museu da Cidade”, whose artistic director is Nuno Faria, continues the reopening of the different “stations” that are part of this cultural equipment.

The new “Extensão do Douro” is located at the Rua da Reboleira, 33 and 37, in Ribeira, in the waterfront area in front of the Muro dos Bacalhoeiros, where the former “Museu do Vinho do Porto” used to be based. On display, in this station, is the exhibit themed “Douro: Terra e Atmosfera”, to enhance knowledge on the schist hard soil of the Douro region, accompanied by air-borne imagery and sonorities of that place. The highlight of the “Extensão do Douro” programme will be seasonal presentations on the wine and vine’s cycle. The exhibit is on display from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10 am and 5.30 pm.

The Museu da Cidade evolves and is established within Porto, as a dynamic cultural platform that links 16 stations, from the Pasteleira Park till the Quinta da Bonjóia, in Campanhã. The new identity featured by the Museu da Cidade boosts both participation and resources, in order to reorganise the repository of the history and culture of Porto.
