Once again, U.Porto is a top university according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2019

For the ninth year in a row, the University of Porto (UP) is once again in evidence in one of the oldest and most prestigious world rankings, the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2019, ranking 301 and 400 best in the latest Ranking edition, and standing out in the research area.

ShanghaiRanking Consultancy is the official publisher of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) since 2009, and a fully independent organization dedicated to research on higher education intelligence and consultation.

This ranking assesses institutions from all continents, in parameters such as quality of education, quality of teachers and lecturers, scientific production and per capita production.

U.Porto scores 45, 1 (an increase regarding last years' ranking) regarding the number of publications indexed in the Web of Science's Social Sciences Citation Index 2018. It is also worth mentioning the rise in the score of the number of scientific papers quotations, from 11, 08 to 13, 00.

Since 2003, ARWU has been presenting the world Top 500 universities annually based on transparent methodology and objective third-party data. It has been acknowledged as the pioneer of global university rankings and the most reliable one.

With origins dating back to the eighteenth century, the University of Porto is currently one the most prestigious Higher Education Institutions of Europe.

The University of Porto comprises 14 faculties and a business school, and provides an exceptional variety of courses, covering the whole range of study areas and all levels of higher education, with over 50 scientific research units, spread across 3 university campuses located in the city of Porto.

For the 17th year running, Harvard University scores first place in the shanghai ranking, followed by the Universities of Stanford (USA), Cambridge (UK), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) and Berkeley (USA).
