Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, in Porto, in the North of Portugal, was, once again, voted the best in Europe in 2019.

Porto airport ranks best European airport 2019 in the category of five to 15 million passengers by Airports Council International. This is the thirteenth time that Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport leads this category among airports in Europe, by ASQ quarterly surveys.

The prize was awarded based on a passenger survey, assessing topics such as waiting times, staff courtesy, cleanliness and comfort within the airport premises.

The election comes as part of a study that assesses passenger satisfaction in 34 indicators, namely, services offered by airports, service quality, waiting times, staff courtesy, cleanliness and comfort.

This information was released by ANA Airports, the concessionary company of the Portuguese Airports infrastructure, which recalls that Porto Airport offers excellent accessibilities, direct flights to 79 cities and an outstanding service.

The airport managing body also stated that "Porto is not only the largest airport in the north-western corner of the Iberian Peninsula, but also one of the most awarded airports, as it received 13 prizes in the past 14 years".

"This award is especially meaningfully for us, in a year when long distance traffic grew 40% and total growth was 9.8%. The region's attractiveness, operating standards and relevant investments enabled Porto Airport to further its sustainable growth, while remaining a positive experience for passengers", affirmed Thierry Ligonnière, CEO of ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal - Vinci Airports.

Also, Fernando Vieira, Director of Porto Airport, in a statement to Económico, described the award as "international recognition of the work the team of Porto Airport carries on, in all the services we provide, and the daily commitment by the workers".

It is worth mentioning that in 2017, Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport was elected second best in Europe in the category of over two million passengers per year.

ACI Europe represents more than 1960 airports in 176 countries, and is in charge of handling over 90 percent of commercial air traffic in Europe and processes more than 1.9 billion passengers annually.
