Porto-Beijing route with Royal Air Maroc, starting on 16 January 2020

Another airliner is to strengthen its flight operations in Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport; Royal Air Maroc (RAM) will open transcontinental flights to the Porto-Beijing route, with a stopover in Casablanca, starting 16 January 2020.

Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto, recently paid an official visit to China and Macau. The meetings held by the Mayor of Porto in China foster mutual understanding and friendship between people from Portugal and China. Moreover, mobility was one of the issues on the discussion table.

Royal Air Maroc has announced that flight reservations for the Porto-Beijing Route, via Casablanca are already open: "Three weekly flights, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, for 590 euros", operated by the Dreamliner B787-9, with seat capacity for 302 passengers, 26 of which Business comfort.

Flights connecting Porto and Casablanca are held every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday on Boeing 737 aircrafts. Freight transport can reach 12 tons.

Besides the direct destinations, this extension aims to create a competitive advantage in "over 9 destinations" from the Casablanca Hub.

This is an important African Hub that will enable Porto airport to establish flight connections to other parts of the world and according to the Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport cannot be seen only as a low-cost destination or a secondary airport.

In the past years, an increasing number of air carriers and flag carriers operate flights connecting Porto to a number of important economic and touristic destinations. Porto has been able to attract new airlines to Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, reinforcing or reactivating routes such as British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Air France, KLM, Turkish Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Lufthansa, TAAG, Sun d'Or (El Al), Czech Airlines and Swiss Air.
