Much more than selling books, Porto Book Fair is the educational and cultural event to attend in the Invicta this September. The Fair runs from 6 September till 22 September at the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal.

"Porto Book Fair inaugurates on 6 September and this is its 6th edition, in the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal, under the aegis of clear thinking and the unique voice of Eduardo Lourenço, the author that is honoured this year and who will see his name inscribed in this Avenida das Tílias [Avenue of the Linden], a green corridor that is, little by little, transforming into a writer's promenade".

This was how Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira officially announced Porto Book Fair's programme, precisely in situ, at the Gardens of the Palácio de Cristal. This year, Porto Book Fair will honour essayist Eduardo Lourenço, and Nuno Artur Silva is the Fair's Commissioner.

The Fair at the Invicta aims to promote books, cultural and recreational initiatives to suit all tastes, and in this line of thinking, Rui Moreira enhanced that "we want that Porto Book Fair is an enjoyment venue that welcomes all audiences and all types of audiences; the Educational Service Programme features a wide range of proposals for families and infants, with reading, writing, and illustration workshops".

"There will also be the wonderful Porta-Jazz concerts, and other performances around the spoken or written word", Rui Moreira added.

Porto Book Fair received 87 valid applications for the 2019 edition, totalising 130 pavilions. The Literary event is back to the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal from 6 to 22 September, with 9 bookshops, 46 publishing houses, 21 used bookstores and 6 distributors, plus 5 institutional presences.

Book fairs are important events as they bring together publishers, agents, distributors, retailers and book lovers together on a single platform. The city of Porto hosts this recreational, educational and cultural event where everyone can find bargain sales, genuine book lovers can find books of their choice and children are most welcomed as they can grow an interest on books.

As a matter of fact, book fairs help inculcate reading habits among people of all ages. There are also various cultural activities at the Porto Book Fair, which is another attraction for the visitors, namely cinema screening, debates, workshops, concerts and performances.

Porto Book Fair (PBF) 2019 operating hours are:

- Opening from Monday to Friday at 12 o'clock

- Opening on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 o'clock

- Closing from Sundays to Thursday at 9.30pm

- Closing every Fridays and Saturdays at 11pm

Like last year, the venue is subject to constraints due to the rehabilitation and renovation ongoing at the Rosa Mota Pavilion.
