Get a perspective on the work by Pritzker prize Álvaro Siza Vieira with the online course organised by Porto Municipal Libraries. The course is themed “A arquitetura de Álvaro Siza: textos, projetos e obras” [aka “Architecture by Álvaro Siza: texts, projects and works”). Sessions take place during February, every Thursday, between 6 pm and 8 pm. Application is mandatory and deadline is 2nd February.

This is the opportunity to learn (more) about the work and the projects by Siza Vieira. The course also features interviews and texts written in certain moments of his professional path.

In October 2019, Siza was awarded the Charles Abella Prix by the French Academy of Fine Arts; recently, one of the most decorated architects in the world, Siza was granted the National Architecture Prize of Spain. The Académie des Beaux-Arts has chosen Álvaro Siza for his "masterful body of work" and his "humanist dimension".

The course will be delivered by Carlos Machado, professor of the Architecture and Urbanism Study Centre (CEAU) of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP). Classes take the online format, due to the ongoing pandemic; still, the focus is the combining of Siza’s architecture projects with his way of thinking.

It is worth mentioning that Siza is also engaged in a major project: jointly with Lello Bookshop, the accomplished architect is to design a cultural space in Porto; therefore, what better time to get to know what Siza’s work is all about.

The course will be delivered in two weekly hours: on fourth, 11th, 18th and 25th February, all sessions include project presentation and drawing and photo projection. The course price is seven euros (three euros for registered members of Porto Municipal Libraries).
