Restored version of the film 'Francisca' by Manoel de Oliveira screened at the Venice Film Festival

The film 'Francisca' (1981), by filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira will be screened in a restored version during the 76th Venice Film Festival, which runs from 28 August till 7 September in Italy.

'Francisca' is to be screened at the Venice Film Festival, in the "Venice Classics" category, next to films by such directors as Federico Fellini, Bernardo Bertolucci, Dennis Hopper, Martin Scorsese and David Cronenberg.

Manoel de Oliveira's filmography is extensive and comprises films as 'Aniki-Bobó', 'Os Canibais', 'Non ou a Vã Glória de Mandar', 'Vale Abraão', 'A Caixa', 'O Convento', 'Party' and 'A Carta'.

The category 'Venice Classics' is presented as a 'selection of the best restored classics of the cinema, recovered from cinema archives, cultural institutions and producers of the entire world', stated the Festival's organisation in a press release.

This year, this category also includes the films 'The White Sheik' (1952), by Federico Fellini, 'La commare secca' (1962), by Bernardo Bertolucci, 'Out of the Blue' (1980), by Dennis Hopper, 'New York New York' (1977), by Martin Scorsese, and 'Crash' (1996), by David Cronenberg.

This category will also screen 'a selection of documentaries on cinema and its authors'.
