This year, the historic celebration of the voyage of the Apostle Santiago’s body from Israel to Galicia, Spain will be extended for two years, and Porto will be one of the last landing points during the Iacobus Maris regatta, which features 3400 nautical miles and sailboats. The regatta is due to arrive to the Invicta on 17 July 2022, but in the meantime, the Roadshow Xacobeo 21-22 can be visited at the Praça de Parada Leitão, in Porto, from today, 25 June, until 27 June, Sunday, between 10 am and 6 pm.

Celebrations are promoted by the Xunta de Galicia to honour São Tiago, also known as the Holy Jubilee Year or Holy Year Compostela. This event only takes place when the 25 July lands on a Sunday. It has been so since the 12th century.

In unprecedented times, and during the pandemic, this historic celebration is extended for two years, for the first time. Santiago de Compostela, named after the Apostle, celebrates the Xacobeo, the Holly Year for the Catholic tradition, which is always marked on 25 July. The celebrations include a wide range regatta, with a stopover in Porto between 17 and 19 July 2022.

This travelling exhibition also raises awareness on the Galician culture, art and gastronomy. This initiative is organised by the Regional Government of Galicia and the Traslatio Foundation, with the support by Porto City Hall and the Turismo Porto e Norte de Portugal.

The exhibition Roadshow “Ano Jacobeu/Caminhos de Santiago/ Turismo da Galiza” has the support of the Municipality of Porto and can be visited in a mobile tourism unit, at Praça de Parada Leitão, from 25 June to 27 June, between 10 am and 6 pm.
