Serralves opens doors to mark International Day of Museums and to open an exhibition

Fundação de Serralves opens doors today, 18th May, starting at 10am, to commemorate the International Day of Museums. 

This will also be the opportunity to officially open the exhibition by Lourdes Castro: A Vida é como ela é!", at 6pm.

Entrance is free the entire day of activities, following the necessary safety and prevention rules both by Serralves staff and visitors.

"The Park is full of life and all spaces in Serralves are ready to safely welcome visitors at the Contemporary Art Museum, Casa de Serralves and Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira ", the institution indicates in a statement.

Serralves offers a wide range of outdoor activities during the morning, featuring talks by António Gouveia, director of the Serralves Park and the president of the Portuguese Association of Historic Gardens, Teresa Andresen, staring at 10.30am.

About an hour later, the programme extends to the wood by the Treetop Walk, where the gardeners of Serralves will deliver a planting session of some native species of the Portuguese forests, in partnership with the ICNF-Nature and Flower Conservation Institute.

At 12 o'clock, at the Jardim das Aromáticas, a flower bed will be planted and baptised "A vida como ela é", by the Foundation collaborators.

At the Farm Mill, Mariana Roldão, Coordinator of the Environment Education Service, leads the exploration of the space, with the visit to the exhibition "A Floresta".

In the afternoon, starting at 2.30pm, the arboretum near the Casa do Cinema, welcomes António Preto, director of the Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira, who will address the director's life and work in a conversation with Pedro Abrunhosa, Ricardo Trepa and Bernardo Pinto de Almeida.

Porto deputy Mayor Filipe Araújo, in charge of Innovation and Environment will visit the Park around 2.45pm and will discuss the green infrastructure of the city of Porto with António Gouveia.

At 5.15pm, Philippe Vergne and Ricardo Nicolau will visit the "Electric" exhibition, exploring the virtual reality as another way of presenting and enjoying art. Afterwards, both the Museum Director and his deputy will present Arthur Jafa's exhibition catalogue.

Later on, Philippe Vergne and Carlos Castanheira will visit the "Orient express - viagem de retorno" exhibition, on the work by Álvaro Siza and Carlos Castanheira in Asian continent.

The end of the day welcomes the inauguration of the exhibition "Lourdes Castro: A vida como ela é", at 6pm. This moment, that will see the comeback of one of the most important visual artist in Portuguese contemporary art, relies with the presence by the Minister of Culture, Graça Fonseca.
