Soares dos Reis National Museum offers free entry this weekend mornings under strict safety guidelines

Take time during the weekend mornings to visit the Soares dos Reis National Museum, located in Porto, a cultural equipment under the tutelage of the DGPC. This Saturday and Sunday mornings, visits are exceptionally free of charge, between 10am and 1pm, under the significant alterations to operating hours, due to the State of Emergency.

The National Directorate of Cultural Heritage (DGPC) announced that all museums, monuments and palaces within their tutelage are open for free tours on weekend mornings, between 10am and 1pm, in compliance with the measures of the State of Emergency.

According to Lusa news agency, the DGPC stated that regarding the relevant changes in visiting hours, “access to these cultural equipment are exceptionally free of charge during the weekend mornings”.

Soares dos Reis National Museum was founded in 1833 as a Museum Portuense by King Peter IV. It is currently housed in the Carrancas Palace, located in the parish of Cedofeita, Santo Ildefonso, Sé, Miragaia, São Nicolau e Vitória.

This is the first Portuguese national museum to exhibit Portuguese art collections, including a collection by Portuguese sculptor António Soares dos Reis, after whom the museum was named.

Bear in mind that museums now have reduced visitor capacity and that preventive measures such as facemasks, hand sanitation and physical distancing are in place, as regards personal protective measures.
