Porto Book fair is officially open. The sunny weather is also "visiting" Porto, so it is fair to say that the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal are the place to be for the coming days. Entrance is free

Porto Book Fair opened its doors to the public at the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal today, at 12 o'clock and already plenty of visitors were interested in treading the fair's route, discovering the pavilions and enjoying the delicacies that books really are!

This year, Porto Book Fair features a multi-thematic cultural programme, from 6 September until 22 September. The leading literary figure to be honoured, this year, is Portuguese essayist, professor, critic, philosopher, and writer Eduardo Lourenço, most renowned essayist in the Portuguese language and one of the great thinkers of the twentieth-century.

Eduardo Lourenço taught at a number of universities, including Nice, where he was Mâitre de Conférences. He authored the following titles: Heterodoxy (1949), Fernando Pessoa Revisited (1973), The Labyrinth of Longing (1978), Fernando, King of Our Bavaria (1986), We and Europe (1988), jut to mention a few.

Porto Book Fair (PBF) opens doors from Monday to Friday at 12 o'clock, on Saturdays and Sundays the fair opens at 11 o'clock and from Sundays to Thursday it closes at 9.30pm. Every Friday and Saturday gates close at 11pm.

The Fair at the Invicta aims to promote books, cultural and recreational initiatives to suit all tastes, as the Educational Service Programme features a wide range of proposals for families and infants, with reading, writing, and illustration workshops.

The fair attracts more visitors by the year, and it offers literary encounters, book presentations, thematic tributes, workshops, conferences, discussions, panels, round tables, seminars, professional meetings, art exhibitions, and films screenings.

These coming days, Porto is, indeed an "open book"! Enjoy Porto Book fair.
