On 28, 29 and 30 June, do not be surprised if you see a bronze boy crossing the Botanical Garden, a sailor grandfather from Denmark or even young Sophia whirling in the dance halls at the Biodiversity Gallery.

This is how the Centenary of the birth of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen will be celebrated, with dramatizations that vivify the life and work of the Portuguese writer and poet born in Porto in 1919.

The Botanical Garden and the Biodiversity Gallery host a triptych of an immersive theatre for childhood and young people, starting on 28 June. The performance is for children from the age of six years and entrance is free, but subject to room capacity.

"Da minha varanda para o mundo", [From my balcony to the world", free translation] is the motto for three plays that will be unveiled throughout the day: morning, afternoon and evening. The plays are based on original texts by writers Tatiana Salem Levy and Flávia Lins e Silva.

The starting point of the plays are the life and work of Sophia, intertwining both the real and the poetic memory of the writer, who has inhabited these spaces and has written about these themes.

"Da minha varanda para o mundo" is staged by Anabela Sousa e com Pedro Couto, Joana Mont'Alverne, Edi Gaspar and Júlia Valente. The performance will feature seven sessions for three days.

Each session takes approximately 45 minutes. Participation requires previous application via email info@mhnc.up.pt, stating the name, phone details, date and timetable of the required session.
