Coliseu Porto Ageas, jointly with the National Theatre São Carlos, in Lisbon, presents The Valkyrie, by Richard Wagner, on 21st March.

One of the best gifts might as well be to prepare for a soon to arrive delicious moments: an opera performance is more than a dash performance, it really moves something inside our guts, and we mean intense feelings and emotions running high! Prepare to be moved!

This production by the English Opera North features a semi-staged concert version, with imagery performances designed by Peter Mumford, and musical direction by British maestro Graeme Jenkins, who collaborated with Royal Opera House.

Die Walküre (The Valkyrie), is the second of the four music dramas that constitute Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen, (English: The Ring of the Nibelung), and it was first taken to the stage, as a single opera, at the National Theatre Munich on 26 June 1870.

The story of Die Walküre is based on the Norse mythology told in the Volsunga Saga and the Poetic Edda. In this version, the Volsung twins Sieglinde and Siegmund, separated in childhood, engage in an incestuous union, which angers the gods, who state that Siegmund must die.

Christopher Ventris, Ricarda Merbeth and Thomas Johannes Mayer are among the opera performers, which will also rely on national opera singers.

This concert marks the beginning of spring, as well as the comeback of the Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra to Porto.

Tickets are already available, ranging from 15€ to 35€.
