20th PortoCartoon Festival announces prizewinning cartoon

The National Press Museum announced the prizewinning cartoon of the 20th edition of PortoCartoon. This year's edition featured themes such as the Environment, Fado singer Amália Rodrigues and filmmaker and musician Woody Allen. The winning work is from Croatia, by Nikola Listes, depicting the pollution of oceans with fishermen machine washing fish to serve at the table.

The Portuguese Photography Centre features the Abolition of the Death Penalty and World War I

The Portuguese Photography Centre features two photographic exhibitions on 7 April. One show is devoted to the abolition of the death penalty, titled "Morte à morte! 150 anos da abolição da pena de morte em Portugal / 1867-2017" [Death to the death penalty! 150 years after the elimination of the death penalty in Portugal]. North Music Festival headliners in Porto next May

Shuttle supports art from Porto abroad

Porto Municipal Council unanimously approved support to art internationalisation at the Executive meeting held this morning in Porto City Hall. This endorsement is named Shuttle and its fundamental goal is to promote contemporary art work, creators and cultural operators of the city of Porto abroad. This open call runs till December 2018 and is targeted at developing artistic projects at a global level.

Exhibition on Almada Negreiros closes March 31 at Soares dos Reis Museum

The exhibit featuring Almada Negreiros'work, on display at Museum Soares dos Reis, will close March 31, after the end date has been postponed. The exhibit gathers 90 drawings by Almada Negreiros, who viewed himself as a futurist artist, inspired by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti and Eugène Ionesco or Arthur Adamov. This will be an occasion to see, first hand, some unpublished works by the author.

Rivoli premieres La Valse by coreographer Raimund Hoghe

The performance "La Valse" by Raimund Hoghe debuts tonight at the Municipal Theatre of Porto - Rivoli. The show is set to begin at 9.30 pm where dance and music are intertwined. This opening marks the 25 years of the German artist's performances in Portugal.

Giant swan land in Porto for the Understage at Rivoli

The duo Giant Swan lands in Porto to take the stage at Rivoli, on 15 March. This is a joint production of Porto Municipal Theatre and Lovers & Lollypops. The British band will go on stage at Rivoli Theatre, on Friday, March 15th, to perform at 11pm, under the Understage Cycle.

National Theatre São João opens theatre and dance shows soon

The next four months of the National Theatre São João (TNSJ) include seven premieres, of which three dance shows and several other shows. The April/July season features performances by Renata Portas, Shantal Shivalingappa, Olga Roriz, Joana Providência, Luísa Costa Gomes and Inês Barahona.
