The municipal programme Missão Férias@Porto delivers eight weeks of fun and pedagogical activities to the over 660 children, of which 64% reside in the city of Porto. And although this is the second time that this mission is held amid the pandemic, everything is done according to the safety measures issued by the DGS. Also, Special Educational Needs' students get the chance to try out all sorts of cultural and sports activities. This mission is great!

Porto City Hall is assessing the need to ensure the best conditions possible to hold the largest fairs and markets in the city, amid the ongoing pandemic, by complying with all the safety measures in place, issued by the DGS. One of the ways to doing that is to establish a devoted place to hold these activities.

The municipal company Águas e Energia do Porto delivered the first water dispenser to the São João University Hospital centre, which will provide drinking water to the professionals of the Central Operating Rooms, under the project “Beba Água da Torneira, Segura e Amiga do Ambiente” [“drink tap water, safe and environmentally friendly”, free translation].

The issues on the table are as simple as these: how to redesign a city that is inclusive that engages those who most need to feel included? The answer was provided by the project “Here be Dragons”, by the Zuloark + Colectivo Warehouse, who summoned a group of eleven people of the Association “Somos Nós” and of the “Associação dos Amigos das Deficiências Intelectuais e Desenvolvimentais (AADID), associations that work with people with intellectual disabilities, to rethink the city.

The programme targeted at school audiences “Wish you were here!”, established in the scope of the international project AtlaS.WH – World heritage in the Atlantic area: Sustainability of World heritage Sites, of which Porto is the head city and also includes the cities of Santiago de Compostela, Bordeaux, Florence and Edinburgh, was selected to be submitted to the 44th Session of the World Heritage Committee, which will take place in Fuzhou, China, on 16 July.

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Public Health Institute of the University of Porto (ISPUP), representatives of the six districts of the Region of the Greater porto, which was held on 14 July, gathered at the Noble Hall of the Rectory of the U.Porto to debate the “Local Power and Public Health”. In addition to handling the pandemic, all local representatives were tuned in the same issue: the vigour of scientific knowledge when drafting public policies.

The renovation of the laboratory of the Águas e Energia do Porto is now completed. The facilities are now equipped with state of the art technologies, and the capacity to assess the quality of the water has been enhanced, thus ensuring that tap water in Porto meets both quality and safety requirements.

The University of Porto continues to take its place at the top of the technological supply and the Digital Days initiative, by the Faculty of Engineering (FEUP) and the Faculty of Sciences (FCUP) of the University of Porto shows exactly that. The virtual fair happens from15 to 16 July with the goal of bringing together people and Portuguese and international companies on digital Talent.

One year after the signing of the protocol and after contacts between the Health authorities, Porto City Hall and the Intervention Services on Addictive Behaviour and addictions, a health and management model was adopted by the Supervised Consumption in the Municipality of Porto. The implementation of this programme entails municipal investment in the amount of circa 650 thousand euros, whereas 270 thousand euros accrue to the managing entity for the period of one year, on a trial basis.

July is on already and, starting on 13 July, activities such as playing with Legos, toys and reading sessions and other treats for the youngest ones are back to the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library. Brace yourselves for the “Verão a Valer” activities, targeted at children aged between 18 months and 12 years old.
