A mural painting that was creatively shaped to celebrate São João

There is a special mural painting that is the apt description of what celebrating São João means: the sentiment that, no matter what, the celebration is also an inner “thing”. And yet, there it is, this imagined São João, authored by illustrator and visual artist Mariana Malhão, located at the Passeios das Fontainhas, in the Duque de Loulé viaduct’s retaining wall. There are people that have a lifelong impact in life, as is the case of architect Rogério de Azevedo, whose work in the city of Porto still stands as landmark heritage. The Garagem do Comércio do Porto, one of the most emblematic creations by the architect from Porto, which has been listed as a Public Interest Monument, was the chosen place to pay a tribute to the man and the work, architect Rogério de Azevedo.

There is a 900 basil plants installation sitting at the Avenida dos Aliados. Feel free to “smell the basil”! It’s St John

Inhale and exhale and know that tradition still remains, as far as basil scents define St. John’s feast, as well. They are one of the celebration’s highest symbols; more than enough reason to place the installation “Flores de Manjerico”, at the Avenida dos Aliados, by the architecture studio FAHR 021.3, which features 900 basil plants in a wooden structure. This is an initiative by Porto City Hall, via the municipal company Ágora. Enjoy and scent it until 23 June.

The Missão Férias@Porto is on between 12 July and 3 September, and it is targeted at youth from 6 to 15 years old, whether they reside or not in the city of Porto. Applications run exclusively online and open today, 21 June, starting at 10 am.

Round table on the new degree on AI and Data Science organised by the FCUP and the FEUP

The FCUP and the FEUP will debate the state of play regarding the new degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. The Round Table gathers on 21 June and joins several experts, from companies and from the academia, to answer questions such as “what are the needs of companies operating in these domains?”, “who are the experts that work in the field of AI and Data Science?”. The Round Table starts at 4.30 pm, at the FCUP’s Library and will be streamlined live via the FCUP YouTube channel.

A most splendid stained glass window can be found in the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto

A most splendid stained glass window adorns the main hall of the modern complex of the Faculty of Pharmacy (FFUP) and the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (ICBAS), of the University of Porto. It is a coloured stained glass that was forged in 1934 and survived a fire in the grounds of the faculty, in 1975.

As the saying goes, “fake it till you make it”, right? Not quite. There are experts on the side of the law and police officers that know how things work, as well. Porto Customs presents a seminar on counterfeiting, especially as regards paintings, relics and aristocratic titles, on 17 June. President of the Republic of Cabo Verde received Honorary Doctorate

The University Portucalense awarded an Honorary Doctorate to the President of the Republic of Cabo Verde, Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca. The ceremony took place yesterday afternoon at the University’s Aula Magna.
