Rehabilitated neighbourhood in Porto, São João de Deus is shortlisted for Mies van der Rohe award

The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture Mies van der Rohe shortlisted 19 Portuguese projects, out of which five are from Porto, namely the São João de Deus neighbourhood in Porto, once a derelict place, in the eastern part of the city.

Management Plan and Governance Model for the Historic Centre of Porto involves active community participation

The project “AtlaS.WH – Atlantic Area Heritage: Sustainability of World Heritage Urban Sites”, led by the city of Porto, by Porto City Hall and by Porto Vivo, SRU, invites the community, visitors and tourists included, to actively participate in the draft of the Management and Sustainability Plan for the “Historic Centre of Porto, Luiz I Bridge and the Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar”.

Rehabilitation works of Agramonte and Prado do Repouso chapels have been concluded

The rehabilitation works of the vaulted ceiling of the chapel at the Agramonte Cemetery and of the chapel at the Prado do Repouso Cemetery, at the Bonfim parish, have been completed. Porto City Hall commenced the rehabilitation works to protect historical buildings, which require extra care and attention to detail, as not to endanger the original features and materials, as historic heritage are our link to the past and bygone eras.

CIIMAR obtains international quality certification

CIMMAR, the Interdisciplinary Centre of Maritime and Environmental Investigation obtained international recognition by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The ISO 9001 certification puts CIIMAR, the research centre of the University of Porto, among the best institution in the world as regards management and organisation.

Porto can share expert advice on how to “Live as a Family”, according to the Norwegian consultant Sumo Finans. The company ranked factors such as affordability, education, safety, environment, family-friendly things to do, nature and park sites per square km, ‘good for kids’ attractions per square km and Global Peace Index 2020 Index, did the math and “Porto takes the top spot on our table.”

Serralves Treetop Walk shortlisted by ArchDaily for two architectural prizes

Treetop Walk, in Serralves, has been nominated for ArchDaily Building of the Year 2021, in two categories: Public & Landscape Architecture and Small Scale & Installations. ArchDaily is a weblog that provides news on projects, products, events, interviews and competitions as regards architecture, for 12 years now.

American film festival acknowledges work by 8-10 year old students from Porto

The Belmont World Film (BWF), a nonprofit corporation that aims to create cross-cultural understanding through the screening of top international films, acknowledged short animated films created and narrated by 8-10 year old students from Porto. The 2020 edition was pushed forward, to 2021 and it took the online format, between 15th and 24th January, due to the pandemic.

Dom Carlos I Avenue halted today and tomorrow due to severe weather conditions

Worsening of weather conditions, starting this Friday, 29th January, halts car traffic at Av. Dom Carlos I, in the seafront. Traffic is prohibited starting at 10 pm. Restriction to circulations is to be lifted as soon as weather conditions permit. The situation is re-assed on 30th January.

The first recognised LEED building in the Iberian Peninsula stands in Porto

The student residence Milestone Porto Asprela achieved the LEED gold certification or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The building, which was formally inaugurated on 19th November 2019, is the first in the Iberian Peninsula to earn this international certification, in the Hospitality typology.
