Wild heron is returned to its habitat after a healing process

Returning wild animals into their natural habitat is a common practice in the Municipality of Porto. This past Thursday, on 1st October, a wild heron was released into its habitat, near the Observatory for Bird Watching, in the banks of the Jardim do Calém.

Laboratory from Porto detects antibodies able to neutralize the SARS-CoV-2

FairJourney Biologics, a Biotechnological company from Porto has just announced it has detected 15 antibodies with a potential to treat patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and to protect the most vulnerable segments of the population. This finding was jointly accomplished with its counterpart IONTAS, a laboratory headquartered in Cambridge, which was recently acquired by Porto, and a world leader in identifying and manufacturing antibodies.

Rivoli hosts the Eurovision philosophical Song Contest this weekend

The Eurovision philosophical Song will now be held in Porto, on 2nd and 3rd October, at the Rivoli. The purpose is to lead to a debate towards the meaning of pop songs and identity issues underlying European countries, as well. Eleven thinkers of eleven countries were challenged to write songs that would mirror the relationship between humanity and major philosophical issues.

Starting this first weekend of October, the programme "Days with Energy" is no longer held outdoors and will offer four indoor venues within the municipal equipment, every Saturday morning, with free classes of Pilates, Yoga and Tai chi. Participation is free, but the number of participants varies according to the venue. Between 9am and 9.30am choose the activity that suits you best.

The Municipal Library Almeida Garrett opens doors to family activities as of October, following a shutdown period due to the ongoing pandemic. The first session kicks off on 3rd October, at 3.30pm and participants will be invited to the reading of the English short story "Guess how much I miss you in the autumn", delivered by the British Council.

The Great Wine Capitals Global Network is promoting another edition of the Best Of Wine Tourism Awards 2021. Companies that develop enotourism activities in Porto and Douro and the "Vinhos Verdes" Wine Regions are now able to apply to such an award, even more relevant in a time when the tourism sector has been so hindered amid the pandemic. A career-spanning exhibition of Alfredo Cunha's work for circa 50 years is on display at the Leica Store Gallery. Mayor of Porto was invited by Alfredo Cunha for a guided tour to the exhibition. The "Leica Years" exhibition is on show at the Leica Store Gallery (Rua de Sá da Bandeira, 48-52). It can be visited from Monday to Saturday, between 10am and 7pm. All DGS preventive health measures are in place.
