Applications are now open for the S. João 2021 Window competition

Applications are now open for the 3rd edition of the “Concurso de Montras de S. João”, aka São João Window Competition, intended for traders in town to showcase the best window that celebrates the patron saint of Porto. For the first time, there will be online voting.

It is all about promoting goals and changing lives! Desporto no Bairro second edition kicks off this month

This second edition of “Desporto no Bairro”, which kicks-off this month, has the goal of “doing more and better”, affirmed Rui Moreira. As such, until the end of July, from Monday to Saturday, there will be skate and surf lessons, in addition to breaking. The target audience are the youth from Porto, in another six neighbourhoods that will offer classes delivered by over 20 teachers. The investment rose to circa 100 thousand euros. The presentation session took place at the Parque da Pasteleira.

Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto assessed some of the most significant projects that have been developed in the city of Porto, throughout the past years, from urban rehabilitation to housing, through mobility, environment and sustainability, highlighting that this evolution is due to a “virtuous circle between public and private policies”. For each euro of public investment, “the multiplier effect varies between 20 to 30 euros of private investment”, the Mayor added.

Cultura em Expansão is back with 68 performances till the year ends

Keeping this mission going of taking culture anywhere in the city of Porto is well telling of the success of the programme “Cultura em Expansão”. This is the municipal programme’s eight edition, with enhanced cultural creations and artistic residencies. The stars of the show are no other than the communities of the parishes of Pasteleira, Miragaia, Bouça and Campanhã. However, the performance agenda extends to everywhere in Porto, from May to December, in a total of 68 events.

Online cultural tours to the FC Porto Museum put the focus on the relationship between the club and the city

The Rota do Dragão, an initiative jointly organised with historian Joel Cleto, puts all of the focus on the relationship between the club and the city. Visits will start with a cultural path in Porto, on 30 May, which will repeat on 26 June and 18 July, as summer arrives in town. The agenda also includes three visits to the permanent exhibition to the Museum of the Futebol Clube do Porto, set for 9 October, 6 November and 4 December, respectively.

Porto City Hall and Hospital de S. João wish that the drive-thru vaccination centre commences operations

Rui Moreira and Fernando Araújo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the drive-thru vaccination centre at the Queimódromo, launched as a joint effort by the Municipality of Porto and the Hospital de São João. The equipment is ready since February and has the capacity to inoculate up to two thousand people per day. The support that this drive-thru vaccination centre can provide represents a cornerstone in the action to easing pressures on the Health Group Centres (ACES).

Feira dos Passarinhos will be momentarily relocated until July

The Feira dos Passarinhos, which is normally set up in the Alameda das Fontainhas, will be relocated to Avenida Rodrigues de Freitas, on grounds of public space organization and to give new impetus to the city, under the support to the itinerant entertainment business sector. This is a temporary move, which will be in place between 23 May and 10 July.

Belgium company invests in sustainable housing in Campanhã, designed by Souto de Moura

The Belgium Krest Real Estate will advance the construction of over 70 thousand square metres nearby the Campanhã railway station, in na undertaking that contemplates housing, office space, hotel trade and catering. All these feature have a common denominator: sustainability. The project is signed by Eduardo Souto de Moura and the construction should start in 2022.

Porto City Hall renovates ceramic tiles nearby the Praia Internacional do Porto

Porto City Hall is repairing the tiles, aka azulejos nearby the Praça de Gonçalves Zarco and along the surrounding waterfront. The works are carried out by the municipal company GO Porto, and the main goal is to recover the tile facade of this type of azulejo that is named “Viúva Lamego”, and which are ceramic coated.
