Maersk decided to invest 1.5 million euros at the HUUB, a Portuguese spin-off from the University of Porto. The transport & logistics company Maersk had already invested significant funds - 2.5M€ at the HUUB, a year ago, in a first round led by Pathena (a Portuguese venture capital firm), which was 'oversubscribed', and has attracted interest from several European investors.

Maersk is the largest container ship and supply vessel operator in the world, based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The company's 2017 annual revenue was circa 31 billion euros.

By capitalising international investment, HUUB has finished its "seed" phase with a total of 4.35 million euros, which is twice the average American "seed" and four times the European average.

"This is a matter of great pride for us. We hope it can make a substantial contribution to our partners and to the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Portugal", affirms Luís Roque, HUUB's CEO.

HUUB is a tech startup established in 2015 by four former students of the University of Porto -Luís Roque, Pedro Santos, Tiago Craveiro and Tiago Paiva - devoted to the logistics platform for renowned international fashion brands, whose operations are managed by the Spoke platform, developed by HUUB.

The spin-off from the University of Porto expects a revenue increase of about 200% compared with the previous year, due to the over 60% brand-raising in 2018. The company also intends to create 85 jobs till the end of the year.

"We are a startup country of high quality and high-end human talent", enthuses Luís Roque.
