World experts debate the future of Ambulatory surgery in Porto

Porto Customs Building, in the city of Porto, plays host to the 13th International Congress on Ambulatory Surgery.
This three-day event, from 27 to 29 May gathers circa 1500 participants. 

The Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, opened the ceremony and thanked the choosing of Porto to hold such an important event, highlighting that the Invicta is "a safe, attractive and buoyant city".

The Congress is organised by the IAAS - International Association on Ambulatory Surgery, and brings to Porto 160 speakers and experts in the field of Ambulatory Surgery, from surgeons, anaesthesiologists, to nurses and doctors, from 40 countries.

The several panels of debate will discuss issues such as ambulatory or outpatient surgery nowadays, new trends in surgery, anaesthetic techniques, and management policies.

The opening panel also included Miguel Guimarães, the President of the Portuguese Medical Association; Jorge Sousa of the Portuguese Nurse association, Luís Hidalgo, President of the Spanish Ambulatory Surgery Association (ASECMA), Beverly Phillip, President of IAAS and Douglas McWhinnie, President elect of the same institution.

The International Association for Ambulatory Surgery (IAAS) was founded in 1995 and is a registered charity in Belgium. Its aim is to promote the worldwide development of high quality ambulatory surgery.
