TMP moves the schedule forward and takes Raimund Hoghe’s Postcards from Vietnam on stage today at Rivoli

Porto Municipal Theatre moved the schedule forward and the in-person presentation of the show “Postcards from Vietnam”, by Raimund Hoghe, is set for today, Thursday, at 7.30 pm, at Rivoli. The session was due to go on stage on 15th January, but owing to the lockdown issued by the Portuguese Government, that will not be possible.

Porto European Capital of Culture kicked off twenty years ago, this very same day

Porto was European Capital of Culture twenty years ago, on 13th January 2001. Those attending the ceremony sensed that change was in the air, as most of the invitees arrived at Coliseu do Porto by bus, which was a symbolic way of showing that, in fact, change would come, as in calling attention to the fact that culture had to be accessible to all in society.

The Portuguese Centre of Photography showcases the half century work by photojournalist Alfredo Cunha, who displays his time and mind in an exhibition that portrays half a century of snapshotting reality, spanning from 1970 to 2020.

Fantasporto finds its fans from 23rd February to 7th March at Rivoli

New Year, new Fantasporto edition! Early spring brings what is now the most iconic film festival in the Invicta and, in compliance with all health guidelines in place, the event is aimed at an in-person experience. The starting film is “Death in Venice”, a film by Luchino Visconti, from the work by Thomas Mann.

New walls in Porto to house urban art

The programme of Porto Urban Art launched another Call for artistic interventions in the city’s public space. This new phase of this project is curated by Hazul, the artist from Porto and the goal is to display street art by five local artists, the rule being that there has to be colour uniformity in the street art palette, and the chosen colour is green and/or several shades also included.

Criatório 5th edition deadline application is on 12th January

The Criatório deadline application is on 12th January, until 6pm. This is the 5th edition of the municipal programme, which started on 16th December and will award 25 grants worth 15 thousand euros; as follows: 15 in the artistic creation category and 10 for programming spaces.

An invitation for Saturday

Morning concerts with Porta-Jazz are on at the Quintal (aka yard), on Saturdays, before curfew. Time to nourish the soul as Bernardo Tinoco and Antón Iglesias join on stage; also invited are the musicians Miguel Meirinhos and Demian Cabaud. The goal of this project is to “find a common space between different languages and approaches to music, by these four musicians”, as informed by the association.

“Qui a tué mon père” premières at São João National Theatre

The Teatro Nacional São João (TNSJ) takes to the stage the national premiere of the work “Qui a Tué Mon Père” [“Quem Matou o Meu Pai”. In Portuguese], this 7th and 8th January, at 7pm. The performance was especially designed as a theatre play by the novelist Édouard Louis, in 2018.

Shuttle new edition opens applications for 2021

Shuttle new edition, approved by the Municipal Executive early December, will be effective until October 2021 and it includes financial support, such as logistic expenses and production costs, to be awarded to artistic creation projects in the Invicta, throughout the year. The goal is to promote the solidification of artists, cultural agents and spaces’ activities in Porto.

Book on the Liberal Revolution in Porto is shortlisted as Best of the Year, says the Almanaque Republicano blog

“1820: Revolução Liberal do Porto”, a 500 page book catalogue, by José Manuel Lopes Cordeiro, published by Porto City Hall, under the celebrations of the Bicentennial of 1820 Liberal Revolution, was granted the “Best Book of the Year 2020” title, in the field of Portuguese Contemporary History, by the “Almanaque Republicano” blog.
