FEUP starts the ICT Academy by Huawei and boosts talent

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) officialised a partnership with Huawei Portugal to implement the ICT Academy, the knowledge and innovation programme by the multinational company Huawei, with the main objective of both enhancing the Faculty’s educational contents in the Information and communication technologies (ICT) area and strengthen Huawei’s rapport with the university milieu in the country.

An eye opening experience: Summer School on Art & Cinema by the School of Arts of Porto Catholic University

The Summer School on Art & Cinema, which is jointly organised by the School of Arts of Porto Catholic University and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, the New Alphabet School from Berlin, is back in Porto from 5 to 9 July. The five-day programme is access free but subject to room capacity.

Enjoy the magic wandering around the Magical Garden at Porto Botanical Garden

The Magical Garden was designed for adults and children alike, by the studio OCUBO and will make you embark on a journey to the four corners of the world. The magic adds up with the 17 installations of light that comprise over 300 flashlights and the thousands of LED bulbs. This immersive nocturnal experience takes place from Thursdays to Sunday, and offers three sessions: at 9.30 pm, at 10.15 pm and at 11 pm.

Porto local trade already granted circa 117 thousand euros in sales discounts

Buy 20 euros and get an immediate 2-euro discount. The municipal programme to boost the business activities in Porto already granted circa 117 thousand euros discounts in local and traditional trade in the city. This measure provides for a 2-euro discount for each 20-euro buy in local stores that have adhered to the municipal support programme. The measure is in place until 30 July.

Porto establishes the role of Local Accommodation Mediator

Local Accommodation (AL) in Porto will rely on the services of a mediator to assist and guide the stakeholders in the sector, namely residents, facility managers, tourists and apartment complex managers. The proposal was presented by the councillor for Economy, Tourism, and Trade, Ricardo Valente, during the Executive Meeting held yesterday, 28 June and it was approved by a majority. The CDU party abstained.

Notes and study documents by Manoel de Oliveira are compiled in a book

The Casa da Música Manoel de Oliveira officially launched the book “Ditos e Escritos”, featuring study documents and notes by the renowned Portuguese filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira, on 16 June, at Casa do Cinema, in Serralves. This will be the first of many publications that that institution intends to launch to disseminate the "extensive acquis” of the filmmaker, who passed away in 2015, at the age of 106.

Here comes Trengo: the Circus Arts are back in Porto

Porto Circus Festival aka Trengo is back from 28 June until 4 July. This edition will take ten shows to the Parque do Covelo and the Theatre Rivoli. The festival is organised by the company Erva Daninha, jointly with Ágora – Cultura e Desporto.

Doctoral Congress in Engineering boosts research made in FEUP

Two years after the last event, the Doctoral Congress is back from 28 to 29 June, in a virtual format. The event is organised by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).

Repairs and improvements undertaken at the Rua de Álvares Cabral in Porto are concluded

The paving of the Rua de Álvares Cabral and the surrounding areas, namely the Rua de Sacadura Cabral and the intersection with Rua de Aníbal Cunha, Largo do Priorado and the Rua da Cedofeita have been completed. The endeavour was carried out by the municipal company Gestão e Obras do Porto – GO Porto, and represented a municipal investment of circa 425 thousand euros.
