The MMIPO - Museum and Church of the Misericórdia of Porto is the only Portuguese museum to take part in the competition for the European Museum of the Year Award. MMIPO, located at Rua das Flores, is celebrating its third anniversary and enters this restricted competition for the most prestigious European award in the museological domain.

The University of Porto is working with the counterparts of Lund (Sweden), Ludwig-Maximilian of Munich (Germany), Paris-Saclay (France) and Szeged (Hungary) to building the European Universities of tomorrow, in the framework of the great challenges regarding global health for the future.

Airliners Wizz Air and Ryanair will extend the route network from Porto to London and Brest respectively, in 2019. Tickets are already available on the companies' website.

Porto Municipal Theatre hosts a concert to celebrate peace, on 5 January at Rivoli. This event is entrance free, upon prior ticket collection at the theatre box. This show has limited availability, up to room capacity.

The AtlaS.WH - Heritage in the Atlantic Area, focuses on finding global methodologies and solutions to addressing common challenges that affect Urban World Heritage Sites, namely by stimulating heritage-led economic and cultural development, following the conclusions of the "Diagnosis Study of Urban World Heritage Sites in the Atlantic Area".

Culture Trip has gathered all the relevant data, by pooling information and editorial expertise. The result is a shortlist of 12 destinations and Porto is the second must-see city, "a seaside paradise for those obsessed with food and design".

The importance of culture lies in the way a society defines its identity. This understanding has led the new Rector of the University of Porto (UP), António de Sousa Pereira and his team to design a new cultural paradigm and the shift is set to kick off as of 22 March 2019.

Tom Fleischman, Sound Editor from New York, and five times nominated to the Oscars and winner of the 2012 edition for Sound Editing of "Hugo" by Martin Scorsese, will lecture a masterclass on "Sound in Cinema" at Rivoli Theatre in Porto, on 13 December, in the context of the Sophia Estudante 2018 awards, which will be held at the said venue.

The armed forces, the Portuguese Navy Band, the Portuguese Army Symphonic Band and the Portuguese Air Force Band will perform a solidarity Xmas concert. This event will take place at Casa Música, on 17 December, scheduled to start at 9.30 pm, at the Sala Suggia.
