The film "Les Misérables" is a 2019 French drama film directed by Ladj Ly. It premieres at Theatre Carlos Alberto, on 20th February. This film won the Cannes Festival Grand Jury Prize, in 2019 and The Goya Award for Best European Film, in 2020. It was, also, one of the nominees for The Academy Awards, more popularly known as the Oscars, for best foreign film.

Carnival, Mardi Gras or Shrove Tuesday, or even "the greatest show on Earth", like the Brazilians do (and they are the master Carnival revellers, for sure), happens at Coliseu Porto Ageas on 24th February.

On the morning of 13th February, Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira and Nuno Faria, Artistic Director of the City Museum held a conference at Almeida Garrett Gallery to announce the newly established City Museum. Later that day, citizens were summoned to join energies and help build this cultural platform in The Invicta. Porto was not found wanting!

The 6th edition of the Portucale Race is set for 12 July. The urban riverfronts in Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia are the racing scene of this race. Departure and arrival points are at Ribeira de Gaia, in Avenida de Ramos Pinto, in front of Corpus Christi Convent.

Porto is working to consolidate and expand its public communication infrastructure. Porto Digital Wi-Fi network reached over 2.5 million connected devices, as of 2018, and the optical fiber network extends more than 4 thousand kilometres, which is unique in Portugal. Even at European level, not many cities match this kind of connectivity.

The dates for the fourth edition of North Music Festival 2020 have already been set: 22 and 23 May, Porto Customs plays host to the best of rock and indie in Porto and pulls unparalleled line-ups.

The Casa Comum of the Rectory of the University of Porto hosts the tertulia on Science, Religion and Knowledge themed "Islam, Koranic Literalism, Science and Future Challenges", on 14th February, at 5pm.
