The Municipal Theatre of Porto announces programming for the 2018 season, on 10 January, starting at 6.30 pm at Theatre Campo Alegre. This event is free and open to the public. The detailed programming for the first half of 2018 will bring new shows for all interests.

The winners of the 2018 edition of the Green Project Awards will be announced on 12 January, at Customs of Porto. This event is organised jointly by Porto City Hall and Lipor.

Theatre Company "mala voadora" sets off the first performance of an improvisational theatre that is sponsored by Porto City Hall through the Criatório programme. This bold and innovative project will last for the entire year 2018 and comprises improv or impro theatre in which most or all of what is performed is unplanned or unscripted but rather created spontaneously by the performers.

The Serralves Foundation Auditorium hosts the Conference Ubuntu Bridges 2018, on 7 January. This event is entrance free and it is all about sharing the life stories of the participants to the 4th edition of the Ubuntu Leaders Academy. This conference takes place between 10 am and 6 pm.

The University of Porto provides a total number of 567 vacancies for international students for the school year 2018/2019, 155 more places than the previous academic year. Applications must be submitted via Faculty (or Degree) where the student intends to study.

Landmark building of the city of Porto, Lello Bookstore marks its 112 anniversary on 13 January, fully restored and presenting a wide range of events open to the public.

Coliseu Porto welcomes in 2018 with the New Year Concert, on 6 January, starting at 9.30 pm. This event features music by composers Strauss, Dvorák, Kilar and Tchaikovsky played by Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra and conducted by Polish conductor Sebastian Perlowski, reputed as maestro of opera excellence in Kraków Opera in the past five years.

The tasting of authentic Port wine leads to the touring of the city of Porto. The roadmap is presented by British Newspaper The Telegraph in its online edition, under the telling title "why Porto should be your next port of call".

Saturday afternoon, on 6 January, ten folkloric groups of Porto will parade through the city, perpetuating the tradition of The Singing of the Kings, which occurs in January, on The Three King's Day.

The Metro of Porto was used by 60.6 million passengers in 2017. An increase of around 2.6 million passengers compared to the year 2016. Passenger number has increased, according to the Metro Company, which represents a growth of 4.5% compared to the 58 million passengers in 2006.
