Porta-Jazz is back with the biggest-ever edition

The Porta-Jazz festival is back in Porto, from 2 to 9 November, with the biggest-ever edition, this is one of the highlights of the Jazz Programme in town. This event includes 17 concerts, featuring premieres and artistic exchanges, and will bring to the city of Porto 70 professional musicians, of which 20 are foreign.

Sir Martin Rees talks about the use of technology in the 21st century

British Astronomer Royal, sir Martin Rees will be in Porto, this week, to talk about the opportunities and threats in the field of science in the 21st century. Regarded as one of the world's greatest scientific minds of our times, Martin Rees delivers a lecture at the Biodiversity Gallery in the University of Porto, 17 November, starting at 6 pm.

Exhibition at the City Hall marks the 75th anniversary of Coliseu Porto

The closing ceremony of the Coliseu Porto 75th anniversary celebration will take place at the town hall foyer, 15 November at 6.30 pm. Recalling the most emblematic artists who helped build both the history and the legacy of this iconic stage of the city of Porto, for three quarters of a century, the exhibit "The Coliseu and the City: 75 years of stories" is entrance free and will be on display until 19 January.

Season-ending of Simultaneous Openings at Bombarda Arts Quarter

Miguel Bombarda Arts Quarter has ended the 2017 season 11 November with the sixth and final cycle of "Inaugurações Simultâneas" [Simultaneous Openings]. The "Inaugurações Simultâneas" at Miguel Bombarda district, sponsored by Porto City Hall (through Porto Lazer Municipal Company), jointly with Bombarda Art District, will return in January 2018.

The Head of State commends the excellence of higher education in Porto at the opening of the School of Health new installations

The President of the Republic commended the way Porto region has been supporting Education and Social Cohesion by investing in the health component. The Polytechnic Institute of Porto (IPP), also referred to as Porto Polytechnic recently opened the School of Health new premises at the university campus of Asprela and was honoured by the presence of the President of the Republic who praised the "quality and excellence of higher education" in the city.

Christmas lightings are switched on 1 December at Avenida dos Aliados

Christmas lightings in Porto will be switched on 1 December at 5.30 pm. As usual, the occasion will be marked in Avenida dos Aliados, when the Christmas tree will be lit at General Humberto Delgado Square, in front of Town Hall and thus the holidays officially begin. As in the last two years, the City Hall marks this date with an open celebration at Avenida dos Aliados.

Virginia Woolf's Orlando is revisited on stage at Carlos Alberto Theatre

"Orlando", a novel by Virginia Woolf is revisited in the monologue "Grande Vaga de Frio" [wave of cold weather] which will be on stage at Carlos Alberto Theatre, from 10 November to 19 November. A drama by Luísa Costa Gomes, directed by Carlos Pimenta and interpreted by Emília Silvestre, this play marks a meeting with the adventures of a poet who changes sex from man to woman and lives for centuries, meeting the key figures of English literary history in a satiric form.

The Oscars of the Events bring the world to Porto

The Bea World Festival will gather in Porto over 500 people from all around the world. These awards don't come with a golden statue but rather with an elephant as a reference symbol. The Oscars of the events, the Bea Awards will be held, for the first time ever, in Portugal, in the city of Porto, from 15 to 18 November.
