Porto is on its way to becoming a climate neutral city by 2030

Vice-Mayor of Porto, Filipe Araújo attended the European debate on climate neutral cities and highlighted the role that cities play during the transition to carbon neutrality and carbon offsetting. As such, several examples were laid down to illustrate what the city of Porto has been doing to meet the Paris Agreement aims, and reach a post-carbon economy, by 2030.

Porto provides HIV/AIDS testing free of cost in both a mobile and a stationary unit

The HIV/AIDS screening actions are carried out by the Centro de Aconselhamento e Deteção Precoce do VIH/SIDA do Porto (CAD VIH/SIDA Porto), which is the Counselling Centre for the earlier diagnosis of HIV/AIDS, both within its mobile unit and in the stationary unit. Três Tristes Tigres iconic band from Porto take to the stage today at Passos Manuel

Today, 10th December, the “Cultura em Expansão” municipal programme takes the iconic band from Porto, “Três Tristes Tigres” to the stage at Passos Manuel, who will feature their latest album “Mínima Luz”. The band released this album after a long break in their musical creation. The concert kicks off at 7.30pm and entrance is free, but prior collection of the ticket is mandatory, starting at 5.30pm, on site.

The new amazing editions of Criatório and Shuttle for 2021

The new editions of the cultural municipal programmes Criatório and Shuttle, for the coming year of 2021, have been approved by the Executive Meeting, earlier this week. The Criatório opens applications this 16th December to award 25 grants, worth 15 thousand euros; fifteen of those grants will be awarded to artistic creation projects and ten grants for programming spaces. The purpose is to promote the solidification of artists, cultural agents and spaces’ activities in Porto.

The role and the history of art galleries in Porto, on show at BMAG

This 17th December, Porto Municipal Gallery inaugurates the exhibition “Que horas são que horas: uma galeria de histórias”, curated by José Maia, Paula Parente Pinto and Paulo Mendes. The exhibit pictures the role that a Municipal Gallery must play in the city.

The Municipality of Porto “leaves no one behind” and launches HIV/AIDS oriented guide in Braille

The Municipality of Porto just launched the HIV/AIDS G.P.S. (Guia Porto Sem, aka “Guide Porto Without”, free translation) guide braille version. This way, people who are blind or that have low vision are also aware of the useful information regarding HIV/AIDS. As has happened with the English version of the guide, this version will also be handed out freely through several entities in the city.

Jonathan Uliel Saldanha is the associated artist of Porto Municipal Theatre

The latest project by Jonathan Uliel Saldanha, "Mercúrio Vermelho" debuts his latest work at the Rivoli, on 10, 11, 12 and 13 December. This will be the starting point of the new collaboration between the artists and Porto Municipal Theatre (TMP), which will extend for the 2020/21 and the 2021/22 seasons.

Porto switches public lighting to LEDs thus boosting energy efficiency

Porto will have LED streetlights, as unanimously approved by the Municipal Assembly, during an extraordinary meeting, last week. This means that Porto will significantly reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions by 3800 tons.

This week is time for Xmas shopping and shop window competition in Porto

The Christmas Window competition is back this 2020, and it runs until 17th December. The jury of the competition received 145 applications, but as much as 138 entries made it to the contest for best ornamented Xmas shop window, as seven applications were not appropriated or were cancelled by the shop owners.

From 11th December to 3rd January, the traditional Christmas Circus is back to Coliseu do Porto Ageas with 20 artists, absolute premiers, the famous Portuguese clown Rui Paixão and a live orchestra, conducted by maestro Cesário Costa.
