The i3S - Research Institute and Health Innovation of University of Porto (U. Porto) is on the spotlight once again for the best reason: Joana Loureiro, a PhD student has won the 2017 edition of the excellence award for genetic research assigned by the American Society of Genetics (SHG). This is the first time that a Portuguese researcher is awarded this challenging prize.

Rivoli features the dance performance "Dancing Grandmothers" 3 November, at 9, 30 pm. This will be a world first, which combines the urban modern world and the rural setting in South Korea, a mix of flowers, stripes and dots, folklore and electronics, movements, video, young and old. The "Efficient Resource Management in the Framework of the Circular Economy" is the theme of the conference to be held on 6 November at the EDP's Auditorium. This event, organised under the thematic conferences cycle of the Green Project Awards, is a participation free event but prior registration is required.

Imagens do Real Imaginado [Imagined Real World Imagery] (IRI) - Photo, Cinema and Media Cycle is already an established tradition at Almeida Garrett Municipal Library. The 14th edition is held from 30 October to 4 November, organised by the Departments of Imaging Arts and Multimedia of the Escola Superior de Media Artes e Design, a school of the Porto Polytechnic Institute.

The co-operation among cities facing the same type of challenges is on focus at the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library, venue for the URBACT 2017 infoday. This initiative is devoted to the dissemination of good practices performed within the scope of URBACT, the European Learning Programme and experience sharing towards promoting a sustainable urban development.

Porto will play host to the 9th International Primary Care Respiratory Group (IPCRG) from 31 May to 2 June. This organisation gives itself the task of "raising the standards of respiratory care" of the global community. The 1st Ibero-American Conference on Primary Health Care will also be held as part of this International Conference.
