Porto Planetarium invites to a Phantom hunt at the Centre for Live Science of Porto University on Saturdays and holidays, starting at 4.30 pm. The Science Centre of Porto University screens a full dome film session titled "The Phantom of the Universe". The purpose is to display something we cannot see, feel or touch, that neither emits nor reflects light, but it is everywhere: the dark matter.

The "Solving the unsolved Rare Diseases" project was recently funded by the European Commission, through the Horizon 2020. The amount of 250 thousand euros has already been found for the i3S Expression Regulation in Cancer research project led by Carla Oliveira.

The Metro of Porto will be extended for more than 5 kilometres and it will have seven more stations in 2022. The Portuguese State Secretary for Environment, Jorge Mendes stated that the works should begin in 2019. The expansion comprises the construction of the new Pink line in Porto and the extension of the Yellow line in the city of Gaia.

Saturday is the 86th anniversary of Rivoli, one of the landmark buildings in Porto. Since its refurbishing, the Rivoli has welcomed thousands of people to memorable performances and events. To celebrate, the Rivoli will run an anniversary programme on 20 January, stretching out pleasantly from Saturday morning to the early hours on Sunday, featuring dance, music, theatre, installation and literature.

The exhibition "10000 anos depois entre Vénus e Marte" [10000 years after between Venus and Mars] from the António Cachola acquis gathers works by several artists from several generations. The display inaugurated early December and will be on show till 18 February. This exhibition is access free.

The 2018 season of Simultaneous openings at Bombarda arts quarter kicks-off today, starting at 4 pm. Seventeen galleries open doors with new exhibits.

The seasons of the year in Porto are brought about by the book "Porto Seasons", a photo album of the city that will take you on a journey to discover the Invicta. This volume, by Sérgio Fonseca, arrives at the bookstores, from Objecto Anónimo publishing house and provides the riveting visual account of Porto for a whole year.

For the first time ever in the entire world, Pizzaiolo international day will be celebrated on 17 January. The celebration takes place in Porto and pizzas will be offered to the public at Gomes Teixeira Square (aka Praça dos Leões), where a wood oven will be assembled, starting at 11 am.

One of the best concert halls of the past years, Casa da Música (CdM) boasts a unique roll call of concerts for the 2018 season. The year Austria sets the tune for this season, on 12th January, with a concert by Porto Symphonic Orchestra Casa da Música, with Bruckner's Symphony No. 7, directed by Michael Sanderling, starting at 9 pm, at Sala Suggia.

Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, participates in the 6th Edition of the Week of the Republic of Cabo Verde at the invitation of the Presidency of the said country. Rui Moreira will speak at this event about "Local authorities/regional authorities: models, strengths, risks and limits".
