New Filmaporto platform wants to boost Porto as the city of cinema

The Municipality of Porto presented the Filmaporto Film Commission, a project that will turn the Invicta into a “City of Cinema”. The project also includes the promotion and the regulation of filmmaking in the city and the awarding of production and training grants.

124 pavilions and 78 entities take centre stage at Porto Book Fair

Porto Book Fair is back in town from 27 August to 12 September, in the Gardens of the Palácio de Cristal. The 2021 edition received 82 applications, of which 78 have been approved, namely publishers, distributors, bookstores, used bookshops, and institutional entities that will occupy 124 pavilions, and another pavilion that will be utilized by Porto City Hall.

Porto Municipal Art Collection adds 15 new works by artists of the city

Porto City Hall will acquire 15 new works to add to the Municipal Art Collection of Contemporary Art, in the scope of the direct buying modality of artists of the project “Aquisições”. This was the decision by the current Selection Committee, which includes Eduarda Neves, João Sousa Cardoso and Pedro de Llano, who have assessed 145 submissions.

The new Campus Paulo Cunha e Silva (PCS) is available for working spaces reservation

Artists working or residing in Porto Metropolitan Areas can, as of now, make their working space reservation at the new Campus Paulo Cunha e Silva (PCS), via the respective website. Each working space can be available up to 240 hours. In addition, there have been launched three new open calls and classes for professionals, which are due to start in September 2021.

Trengo is back in town and with it the sheer joy of appreciating stunts and circus arts

Trengo - Porto Circus Festival is back from 28 June to 4 July. This edition, witness all ten shows that will take to the Parque do Covelo and the Theatre Rivoli. This Trengo is a family version show that features 19 presentations, organised by the company Erva Daninha, jointly with Ágora – Cultura e Desporto.

Alberto Giacometti and Peter Lindbergh’s groundbreaking exhibition at the Museu da Misericórdia

The exhibition themed “Alberto Giacometti - Peter Lindbergh. Seizing the Invisible” brings to Porto, for the first time ever, unseen photographs of the Swiss visual artist, Alberto Giacometti, captured by the German photographer Peter Lindbergh. It will be on display at the Museu da Misericórdia do Porto (MMIPO) until 24 September.

Love and correspondence on display at the Triplex

The exhibition themed “Cuidar Selvagem: Arquiteturas de amor e correspondência”, curated by Ana Jara and Alberto Altés is on display at the The Palacete dos Viscondes de Balsemão, namely at the Triplex, which is part of the Museu da Cidade. This event is included in the activities by Porto Design Biennale 2021.

Students of Porto Ballet School take to the stage at Coliseu Porto Ageas

The performance “Ballet Concerto”, by the students of the Porto Ballet School takes to the stage at Coliseu Porto Ageas on 18 June, at 9 pm. This show is the consolidation of the work developed by the school during the pandemic. See here for more information.

BMAG Book Club offers feminine tales this June

The Almeida Garrett Municipal Library Book Club offers readings by the greatest raconteurs of works by Portuguese writers, namely in the scope of the ‘Feminine tales’ ("Contos Femininos e Singulares"). Participation is free, upon prior registration.
