FITEI 2018 kicks off 12 June with performing arts as a drive towards empowerment

Today begins the 41st edition of FITEI - International Iberian Theatre Festival. A ten-day event, themed "Empoderamentos" [Empowerment], whose fundamental goal is to celebrate theatre and performing arts in a number of stages throughout the Atlantic Front, including Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia and Matosinhos, and also Felgueiras and Viana do Castelo.

"Caranguejo overdrive" by Aquela cia. premieres at Rivoli on 12th June

Brazilian theatre company, Aquela cia., premieres performance "Caranguejo overdrive" on June 12th, in the context of the Fitei 2018, the International Festival of Theatre of the Iberian Peninsula. This performance intertwines theatre and literature expression as an artistic form of launching the debate on Brazilian society nowadays, especially in Rio de Janeiro.

European brewery culture is back with Porto Beer Fest

The Gardens of Palácio de Cristal play host to the third edition of Porto Beer Fest. The event runs from Wednesday, 13th till 16th June. Participants will have a full plate with beer tasting, snacking, enjoying the music and even watching the Football World Cup matches on a giant screen set up in the premises.

World Cup Matches screened live in the Cordoaria

From 14th June to 15th July, the world Cup Matches will be screened live in the Cordoaria. Porto City Hall, will set up the perfect conditions to watch all the football matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. The venue is the Amor de Perdição Square, in front of the Portuguese Photography Centre, with a giant screen.

June is the month of folklore singing and dancing all across town

June brings concerts, balls, and festivals all across town. As is tradition, the Feast of Saint John will enliven the city of Porto with outdoor folklore singing and dancing. Besides, there are also conferences and exhibits to visit this month.

University of Porto debates the Future of Computing

UPTEC, the Science and Technology Park in Porto, will organise the Future of Computing event, which will run from 25 to 29 June. In an era where unpredictability is the common trend, world computer experts and visionaries will debate the possible developments computation faces in a very much near future at the Faculty of Fine Arts of University of Porto.

"Eating a la Porto" honoured at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards

"Eating a la Porto", "À Moda do Porto" in Portuguese, won third place in the Local Countries Category. The book, coordinated by Chef Hélio Loureiro and endorsed by Livraria Almedina and Porto City Hall, includes many traditional recipes and dishes of Porto, sprinkled with history and trivia on the city, taking you on a journey through the smells and flavours of Porto.

The University of Porto sets up Innovation Advisory Board

The University of Porto is focused in maintaining its leadership in terms of booming valuable knowledge both in Portugal and at international level alike. To doing so, the U. Porto has set up a new high-level advisory body composed of professionals with broad experience particularly in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship as well as a strong understanding of the academic and business worlds.

Salia Sanou and Jérôme Kaboré host dance workshop at Rivoli on 7th June

Salia Sanou, joined by percussionist Paulo Costa, hosts a dance workshop at Rivoli, on 7th June, from 6 pm to 8 pm. This will be an impromptu dance lesson, built on the idea of inner exile each person holds within as an "unaltered strength, struggle and yearning". This workshop is targeted at "everyone who wishes to dance", with or without dance experience, up to twenty participants.

Students from Porto awarded at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2018

Young scientists from Porto won the Second Award of $1,500 at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2018, in the category MCRO019T ShealS - Sea Heals Soil. The teen scientists Eduardo Nogueira, Francisca Martins, and Gabriel Silva study at Colégio Luso-Francês, in Porto, Portugal and were distinguished by their research on developing a natural fungicide composed of marine macro algae to combat the ink-disease, caused by the pathogenic agent oomiceta Phytophthora cinnamomi which...
