What if puppets could be empowered and seek another existence in the world of things?

FIMP - the International Puppet Festival of Porto is back to the theatres of Porto Municipal Theatre (TMP), between 10 and 18 October, featuring national debuts that will be on show on theatres and in an online format, as well. The Campo Alegre Theatre welcomes the play "Uma Coisa Longínqua", on 15th October, at 9pm, by Teatro do Ferro and composer Carlos Guedes.

Why not venture into Portuguese Centre of Photography and appreciate the work by photojournalist Alfredo Cunha, who displays his time and mind in an exhibition that portrays half a century of snapshotting reality (1970-2020), to his own accord.

Nadir Afonso on display at the Rectory of the UP

"100 Anos Nadir, Inéditos", aka "100 years Nadir, Unpublished", this is the motto of the exhibit that marks the kick off of tribute by the University of Porto to the painting Nadir Afonso (1920-2013). This display features over 100 works by Nadir Afonso that are unheard-of to the public eye at the Rectory of the University of Porto, till 23rd December. Entrance is free.

1820 celebration programme debates "The Creation of Liberties" on 5th November

The International Congress on "The Creation of Liberties", under the celebration of the bicentennial of the Liberal Revolution in Porto had to be reorganised amid the ongoing pandemic, and on 5th November, the original programme only keeps the opening session, at the Municipal Library Almeida Garrett. This event is open to all audiences. Prior registration is mandatory.

Special programming to celebrate Cineclube do Porto 75th anniversary

Cineclube do Porto, the oldest film society in Portugal celebrates its 75th anniversary. The date is celebrated with a cycle that tells the history of cinema throughout these past 75 years, from print film to digital era. The kick off film is Vampyr (1932) by Dreyer, to be screened on 15th October. The following film selection includes movies by Orson Welles, Bresson, Godard, Coppola and films such as "Sans Soleil", "Russian Ark" and "Under the Skin".

Lockdown Porto by Paulo Ferreira is recipient of three prizes at the Finisterra Arrábida Film Art & Tourism

Porto caught on camera during lockdown by Paulo Ferreira was awarded three prizes at the international film festival Finisterra Arrábida Film Art & Tourism 9th edition. In addition, the film was also granted an honourable mention by the jury of the festival.

Porto International Puppet Festival or the essence of creativity at the Invicta

As of 9th October, FIMP is back in Porto and, once again, puppets are brought to life, objects and matter, but this edition is one to "challenge the audiences to rethink the world and things in a different perspective, in order to rediscover our old and undeterred humankind".

The Porto Femme International Film Festival 2020 is back to the Invicta with circa 127 films, from 39 countries. The Casa Comum of the Rectory of the University of Porto features eight sessions, from 7 to 10 October.

The first concert kicked off last Sunday, 4th October - presenting Maria João and the Pablo Lapidusas trio - and runs until 25th October, at the Sala Suggia at Casa da Música, presenting an eclectic poster of Contemporary Jazz performances, as usual.
